How Research Peptides Are Made
Research peptides are short chains of amino acids produced through chemical synthesis rather than biological extraction. The most common method used across the industry is Solid-Phase Peptide Synthesis (SPPS), in which individual amino acids are added one at a time to a growing chain anchored to a solid resin. This approach allows precise control over the sequence and structure of the final peptide.
Once the full amino acid chain is assembled, the peptide is cleaved from the resin and undergoes a series of purification steps, typically involving High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), to remove synthesis byproducts, unreacted materials, and impurities. The result is a peptide isolated to a high degree of purity, suitable for controlled laboratory research.
